Vrindavan, India, 1995

This widow returning to her ashram in Vrindavan is one of the most inspiring stories that I’ve come across. Despite this woman being a child bride, losing her husband at 14, and living in this village for the past 60 years, she had a very wonderful disposition, had a great sense of humor, was very giving and had a great sense of hospitality. I was so impressed that this woman, who had absolutely nothing, could be so generous and have such a great sense of humor. She invited us to her home, we went there, we had some tea and I thought, somebody that has such a difficult situation with her physical condition, and the fact that she had been a widow at 14, to be able to be so happy and friendly... I thought it was a real inspiration to me.
