This picture of a mother and her child asleep in a hammock on a lake in Cambodia really needs a caption. What I love about this picture is the mystery, and the uncertainty, and the ambiguity of why the snake is slithering underneath their hammock. Is this a dangerous situation? What's going on? The answer is that this family had a cold drink stand on their houseboat. In order to attract tourists, they decided to create this small zoo with different animals. They had a monkey, and fish, and a bird and this snake. So in fact, all these animals were part of their household, and this snake was more of a pet and it wasn't threatening. It's a very ingenious way to attract tourists.
One of the things I like about this picture is the shape of the snake under the hammock, and how the skin of the snake and the pattern is echoed in the mother's blouse. I think there's an interesting comparison, texture and design between the snake's skin and the mother's blouse.
