Inle Lake is one of the most magical places in Burma. Every morning I used to get up, meet the fishermen and go out with them, as they caught fish in one of the most unique ways of any place in the world that I’ve seen. I love going and photographing fishermen in different parts of the world. Seeing how in some ways they all do the same thing, but they do it in an incredibly different, ingenious and interesting ways. I’ve been going to Burma for more than 30 years and each time I go back I always want to make a stop to Inle Lake. It’s quiet, it’s serene, it’s peaceful… The fishermen paddle silently through the water. It’s fascinating to see the light change on Inle Lake from pre-dawn, when all you can see is shapes of fishermen gliding silently through the water, to the dramatic sunrise and eventually, to the whole lake become bustling with traffic, people coming to market, going to school and going to work.
