New York, United States, 2001

This photograph of the smoldering remains of the World Trade Center was actually photographed in the morning of September the 12th, 2001. I had spent the previous day down at Ground Zero. I just felt I had to go back again to complete my work and to continue to document this terrible tragedy. As the sun rose, I watched construction crews, police, and firemen searching in a very futile way, looking for survivors. It just seemed like a futile attempt, it seemed like an impossibility to find any survivors. More than 3000 men, women and children, people representing all nationalities from around the world who would come there that morning to work, or to have meetings or to simply visit as tourists, and they all met their death due to this insane evil act.
