Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India, 2007

I was wandering around the back alleyways of Jodhpur one morning, when I came across this one particular stretch, which had all these handprints on the wall. One of the major festivals had just ended in India, and that festival is about color. People often will put their handprints on the wall, just in good fun as kind of a folk art, so I thought this could make an interesting picture if I waited. Perhaps, somebody could walk into my frame or walk away from me, and I could make this really wonderful design with these handprints on the wall. I waited for one hour, two hours… In fact, I came back again the next day because I am a firm believer that if you see something you like, stay with it. Eventually, after hours of waiting, this one boy ran past me. I do not know if he was late for an appointment, or if he didn’t want to be photographed or if he was just having a bit of fun with me, but I caught him in mid-flight and that made the picture.
